In Lindholmen micro terminal deliveries of goods are combined with collection of waste since 2008, aiming to reduce heavy-vehicle transport and improve service appeal. So far, the amount of heavy truck traffic has been reduced by 80%. Today there are vehicles with renewable fuels which will be soon replaced by fuel cell electric vehicles. At the terminal deliveries are receive and categorized per address, either mail or parcels. Lindholmen concept, includes the development of parcel boxes B2B in the existing consolidation terminal. The goal is to adjust freight handling to a higher service level towards the companies around Lindholmen and reduce motorized traffic, emissions, and congestion. About 1 km apart, there are parcel boxes where tenants can both send and receive goods. Thus, these boxes can be used both for inbound parcels and now also outbound parcels. The concept mainly focuses on covering the costs of the services provided, while maintaining a high service level for customers and freight carriers. The long-term benefit is the potential for further reduction of transports using the outbound function of the parcel boxes. The option of adding further new services such as extended office services and another barge used for recycling material on the river are under investigation at the time.
