The hub at Kaltenkircher Platz focuses on redesigning of a public parking space to provide for more sustainable logistics and mobility solutions. The hub is located on a major traffic axis between the highway and the city center and is directly connected to the public transportation network via a bus stop. The site forms an interface between commercial uses (e.g., food wholesale, major post office) and various residential areas. The site therefore offers a variety of opportunities to develop new connections between logistics and passenger mobility, and create a multi-modal transportation point.
More specifically, the hub at Kaltenkircher Platz will include a logistics micro-hub especially for small logistics companies and start-ups to make deliveries by cargo-bike. The Mobility solutions for private users will include services such as (e-)car sharing, a parking zone for micro-mobility and additional bicycle racks, to also improve the connection to public transport and multimodal mobility. In coordination with a citywide strategy there will also be electric charging points for commercial vehicle users (e.g. taxis).
The Kaltenkircher Platz hub could also be a possible delivery and access point for inter-hub traffic due to its transport connections and space availability.
