Combined Transport Service (Rissen)

In addition to the pilot implementation of hubs, the Living Lab Hamburg focuses on the concept of a combined transport of people and goods. The neighbourhood Rissen in the western, suburban part of Altona has been identified as a test site for combined transport of goods and people in a public transport bus. More concretely, a transportation service for goods from local stores will be offered in collaboration with the public transport company VHH. The objectives of this pilot case are to use the resources of the bus more efficient and reduce private traffic as well as strengthening the local community and economy. The transport by bus will be open to all local customers, but will be of particular value to the elderly population of Rissen. In addition to the public bus operator, local store owners, student start-up companies and senior housing are involved in the development process.

Services:

• Transportation services for locally purchased goods via public transport bus to utilize the excess capacity of vehicles already on the road in the city to reduce traffic and traffic-related emissions

Real users:

• Service is open for local stores in the center of Rissen and all their customers

• New service for all people in Rissen. The service is likely to be especially valuable to Rissen’s elderly population, who enjoy shopping at trusted stores but might be unable to transport their goods home

• Local businesses: Strengthen local businesses by creating a delivery option for their customers

Service:

• In test phase 1, ordered goods are collected from stores by additional transport staff, who then transport the goods on a public transport bus and deliver the goods to the end customers at the selected stop

• In a second test phase, the service might be adjusted to the lessons learned

• In a second test phase, the service might be adjusted to the lessons learned and could also include pick-up-boxes and other additions.
